Is Credit Repair Legal in Arizona?
Yes. Credit repair is legal in Arizona and governed at the federal level by the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). White Jacobs operates in full compliance with CROA, which means we do not charge upfront fees before services are rendered, we provide a written contract, and we honor your three-day right to cancel.
Arizona’s statute of limitations on consumer debt is 6 years for both written contracts (ARS §12-548) and open accounts including credit cards. Arizona adopted the 6-year rule specifically for credit card debt in 2011, creating a uniform 6-year window for all consumer debt. After this period, a time-barred defense may be available — though the debt may still appear on your credit report for up to 7 years under the FCRA.
Arizona is a community property state under ARS §25-211. Jointly acquired debt during marriage is treated differently here than in most states — making divorce-related credit separation a common and distinct issue for Arizona consumers. Wage garnishment requires a court judgment and is capped at 25% of disposable earnings. The FCRA gives every Arizona consumer the right to dispute inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable information on their credit reports at no cost.
Arizona Credit — What the Numbers Show
Arizona Credit & Debt — What Consumers Need to Know
ARS §12-548 sets a 6-year window from the date of first default for written contracts including most consumer loans and credit agreements.
Credit cards and revolving accounts. Arizona adopted a uniform 6-year SOL for open accounts including credit cards — the same window as written contracts.
A creditor must obtain a court judgment before garnishing wages. 25% of disposable income or amount over 30× federal min wage, whichever is less. Arizona does not prohibit consumer wage garnishment.

What Arizona Clients Are Saying
"I’m a retired Air Force veteran who moved to the Phoenix area and discovered three medical accounts from a VA hospital billing error. White Jacobs reviewed them all, confirmed they violated FCRA notice requirements, and got all three removed. My score cleared the threshold I needed for my retirement home purchase in Mesa."
"After my divorce in Scottsdale, my ex’s community property accounts were still affecting my credit file. White Jacobs reviewed the post-divorce account separation, identified two items that were still reporting under my name incorrectly, and disputed them. My score improved by enough to qualify for a new home."
"I work in the semiconductor industry in Chandler and relocated from California. Several accounts from my California credit history were misreporting on my Arizona file. White Jacobs reviewed them, disputed the inaccuracies, and I qualified for the home loan I needed in Chandler."

Arizona Credit Repair FAQs
ARS §12-548 sets a 6-year SOL for both written contracts and open accounts including credit cards in Arizona. Arizona specifically adopted the 6-year rule for credit card debt in 2011, creating a uniform window for all consumer debt. After 6 years from first default, a time-barred court defense may be available. However, the debt may still report for up to 7 years under the FCRA. Making a payment on a time-barred debt may restart the SOL clock — consult a consumer attorney before paying an old account.
Arizona is a community property state under ARS §25-211. Debt acquired during a marriage is generally considered community debt. After divorce, credit files may still reflect jointly acquired debt under both spouses’ names even if the divorce decree assigns the debt to one party — creditors are not bound by divorce decrees. White Jacobs can review post-divorce Arizona credit files, identify accounts that may be misreporting as a result of marital account separation, and advise on what may be disputable under the FCRA.
Yes, after a court judgment. ARS §12-1598 governs wage garnishment in Arizona. The federal cap applies: the lesser of 25% of disposable earnings or the amount by which disposable earnings exceed 30 times the federal minimum wage. Arizona does not have a blanket consumer wage garnishment prohibition. Social Security and VA benefits have separate federal exemptions. A creditor must obtain a judgment before any garnishment begins.
Yes. Arizona has a significant military presence: Luke AFB in Glendale, Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, and MCAS Yuma. Military families face distinct credit challenges: PCS move-related misreporting, SCRA protections that creditors sometimes fail to apply, security clearance applications requiring accurate credit files, and accounts from prior assignments in other states. White Jacobs reviews military credit files for both FCRA inaccuracies and SCRA compliance issues.
Banner Health is one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States with a massive presence across Arizona. Medical debt from Banner Health and Dignity Health facilities must follow FCRA notice procedures before reporting to credit bureaus. Recent federal changes removed medical collections under $500 from major bureau reports. If a medical account was sent to collections before insurance had processed the claim, or without proper FCRA notice, it may be disputable. White Jacobs can review your Arizona medical accounts for compliance.
Arizona’s semiconductor and tech industry — led by Intel in Chandler and TSMC’s new fabs — is attracting tech workers from California and other states. Accounts from prior states may misreport on Arizona credit files: wrong status, still showing as open after closing, outdated address information, or state-specific account features that didn’t transfer cleanly. White Jacobs can review any relocation-related credit issues and advise on what may be addressable under the FCRA.
Arizona — particularly the Phoenix metro — has been one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States. Rapid home price appreciation means a 30-point credit score difference can represent a meaningful interest rate difference and tens of thousands in additional costs over a 30-year loan. FHA loans allow scores from 580 with 3.5% down; conventional loans require 620+ with best rates above 740. White Jacobs can review your file and advise on what may be addressable before you apply.
Yes. Arizona has one of the largest retiree populations in the nation, particularly in the Phoenix metro, Scottsdale, and Sun City areas. Retirees face distinct credit challenges: Medicare billing errors, medical debt from fixed-income periods, accounts from other states that predate the move to Arizona, and post-divorce credit separation issues. White Jacobs can review any Arizona retiree credit file and advise on what may be addressable under the FCRA.
Credit report retention is governed by the federal FCRA, not Arizona state law. Most negative items — late payments, collections, charge-offs, judgments — may remain for up to 7 years from the date of first delinquency. Chapter 7 bankruptcies may remain for up to 10 years. Arizona’s 6-year SOL does NOT automatically remove items from your credit report. If an item is inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable, you have the right to dispute it regardless of age.
Yes. The initial credit review consultation is completely free and carries no obligation. CROA prohibits credit repair companies from charging upfront fees before services have been rendered. The consultation gives you and our analyst a chance to review your situation, discuss your goals, and determine whether our services may be a fit — with no pressure and no cost.
